Detecting intact viruses in breath

What if we could detect COVID-19 in real-time, in a noninvasive way?

We are working to achieve this very needed breakthrough.

The key to beating the spread of the coronavirus is planning and investment in developing means of detection, protection, and treatment. Measures aimed at monitoring the dispersion of the coronavirus and fast screening of individuals are vital. There is also an urgent need to rapidly distinguish COVID-19 from other respiratory conditions.

In this context, the EU-funded Ariadne project will propose breath analysis to test for COVID-19, by developing an analytical platform based on multidimensional mass_spectrometry instrumentation. It will integrate technological advancements in breath sampling and post-ionization methods.

Once it is ready, it can also be used to detect many other viruses and bacteria. No more needles, no more poking in noses, no more waiting!

This project is coordinated by Fasmatech Science and Technology, with the participation of Karolinska Institutet, Heinrich-Pette-Institut, Centre national de la recherche scientifique, and Spectroswiss. Fossiliontech: Electrospray for Proteomics & Metabolomics is proud to be part of this team that will help advance the field of real-time breath analytics.
