Abstract

Breath analysis: unlocking noninvasive disease diagnostics in real time
Exhaled breath analysis is emerging as a powerful, noninvasive approach to disease diagnostics. This review highlights recent Swiss advances, positioning secondary electrospray ionization high-resolution mass spectrometry (SESI-HR-MS) as a key technology for real-time detection of disease-related metabolic signatures in breath. By enabling early diagnosis and therapy monitoring across multiple conditions, breath analysis holds strong promise for patient-centered and precision medicine. Continued progress in standardization, validation, and data integration will be critical to accelerate its translation into routine clinical practice.
