This is a compilation of scientific publications based on Secondary Electro-Spray Ionization (SESI). The purpose of this library is to promote SESI technology as a whole, to help researchers, and to show the broad scope of the applications of SESI, which ranges from biomarker discovery to drug pharmacokinetics.
This compilation also includes some Extractive Electro-Spray Ionization (EESI) publications. EESI was originally developed by Zenobi and collegues. It consists on introducing a sample in a chamber with an electrospray at room temperature. Depending on the sample, it may be introduced via: (a) nebulization of liquid samples, (b) neutral desorption of solid samples, (c) or direct introduction of vapor samples. The complexity of the process hinders the identification of the exact ionization mechanism. In the first years of development the terms EESI and SESI were used indistinctively, nowadays the term SESI is used when the ionization occurs mainly via vapor-ion interaction.
